Everyone loves Jimmy Buffet. When I first moved to Florida, I had ideas of finding a worn old boat, loading it with random junk, and sailing among the islands fishing and Buccaneering. Yep, those plans never came through, Florida isn’t as friendly as I hoped, and no one holds on to anything old here. Good luck trying to find a boat under $15,000. Hell, I could probably make a Chevy Truck sea-worthy for that much!
Where was I? Oh yah, Florida. I can see how people like the warm weather. It can hit 85 degrees before I break a sweat these days. The people here though are idiots. A good portion of them are under-educated (public schools here only cover about half as much as they do in Maine) and most of them think they know all there is and that they are better than everyone else because of it. I don’t like to think of myself as smart, but being amongst these people makes my head hurt.
Because so many people up north seem to have forgotten about me or just never cared in the first place, and because thats the kind of person I am, I wanted to make everyone aware of how nice this place can be. Whats the point of being someplace like this if no one knows it, or cares?
I lost some weight when I first moved here, but due to the events in the last year or so, I have gained it back. I doubt I will ever be a skinny guy, but I can die trying. Wait, that’s not how the saying goes…. oh well, kinda fitting for Florida! So Wiley (my dog, a Patterdale Terrier) has been gaining weight as well, and a little exercise shouldn’t hurt either of us. I have been trying to get him used to going with me on a bicycle. He was a little unsure of it at first, but seems to do ok with it now.
So now back to where I was going before I got sidetracked (happens a lot, I know). I have this crappy little “Philips Keychain Camera” I got at Wal-Mart years ago, and I just recently found it in a box of stuff. It takes decent pictures, and since I have no money it will have to suffice.
Most of the people I can foresee reading this live up north. Land of the ice and snow. I should have started this idea sooner, would have been more fun with you guys getting snow. As I ride my bike with my dog in tow, I will try to stop and take semi-decent photographs of stuff (scenery mostly, Im not a big fan of buildings) and post them on here. Maybe I will include tempeture and weather information, who knows. Its Florida, it doesnt change much.
So after a long winded explanation and little anticipation, here is your Florida picture for today.
Noontime, 78 degrees F. 54% humidity, 14mph winds
(some of the best weather you can ask for here, actually)
This is the pond behind the apartment complex we are currently living in. It has a fountain in the (its off center) middle, and a wide variety of birds and fish living in it. I will try to get some pictures of the turtles later, if they are out.
